Gardening again!

With the garage organized and the recent beautiful weather, I am back outside gardening again. I am trying to do the garden on the really cheap this year, really really cheap. I usually spend too much, yielding very little. I have a vision of what I want: lush, colorful, comfortable and easy. Can't have it all, just yet. It takes work, which I love to put in. If it paid, I would do it all day.

As one cheap alternative, I came across a cool article about $25 vegetable gardens. I think I may try it.

To make the garden comfy, one may think toys and trellises and benches. Garden toys are expensive, so I built a free garden toy. A bamboo tent made from materials collected from around the way. I got the Bamboo from the dead bamboo pile at Rutgers Gardens. The Willow woven in between the bamboo poles was a gift from the people in charge there. It was pruned from a tree and bound for the chipper. The string to tie it in place was from the people who lived in our house before us. 4 year old string! Thanks Santiagoses!

I now have to plant some vine seeds to cover the tent.

Another way to garden really frugally is to do it with seeds. I found seed packs at the dollar store, 10 packs for a $1. I got $3 worth of packets. I am going to plant them ALL on Friday and see how it goes. I have been standing in front of my perennials a lot imagining a outpour of colorful annuals that only I know cost $3.21.

Our older little love "S" is taking after me digging in the dirt and moving planters from one location to the next. For some reason, she gets that she shouldn't pull the strawberries I just planted out of their pots. Good girl!
