Out in the Yard

One of my first Frugal Style entries, early in my bloglife, was inspired by my goal of creating a backyard oasis on a budget. I didn't get that far that summer, giving up due to lack of funds and high heat. Fear not, the dream is still there. A bountiful garden and place to relax in the yard of my house keep appearing in all visions of the future and fantasies that I have (not sexual, get yer head out the gutter).

I am giving myself a BIG push in the pants to get going again because it is so good for me. I love being outside. I love it! I need to be out as much as possible, as often as possible. If I could work outside at all times, I might. Except in sweltering heat and frigid cold of course.

I got started again, on the garden vision, by organizing my garage. There is so much happening there, and the lack of ability to see what I have and need to get to meet my goal is impaired by the chaos.

I took some time over the last two days to get that together. I purged and labeled, made lists and categorized. I used only what I had on hand to do this, making a list of the additional storage items I may need at a later date. With some careful thought, it wasn't much. For now, I will use some cool shaped boxes from Costco.

I organized my gardening gear as well. I laid it all out so I could see what I was working with and created a nice work table.

It's a start.

It felt a little like punishment when I first started. Missing the sun and warmth of the lawn just outside of the garage was tough, but I just stepped out into the heat every once in a while. This purge and day of organizing made me feel successful. The rewards are saving time from not having to search, avoiding duplicated purchases and making more space! Frugal indeed.
