Frugal Book Club: Chapter 1

This months read is going to be: The Only 127 things you need (a guide to life's essentials) by Donna Wilkinson.

I picked this up on yet another date night (with self) at the library. I got a few other frugal and green titles as well, but this "127 things" really peeked my interest.

After the library, I took myself to my favorite park and found a tree with perfect amount of cushiony moss underbutt to read my new collection.

Chapter 1 of 127 things is titled Basics: A healthy body. I know, I know...as I eat my mango and reduced sugar pineapple Rita's water ice that I got for free with my Cool Card. Keep reading...

"The body is the vehicle for awakening and needs to be treated with care" according to some large belly dude called Buddha. He had a point, and I think it's time I start respecting that, didn't he live a long time?

I decided under the tree that I would go home and make a list of all the things I need to eat only essentials. I have heard it before, veggies, vuts and lLegumes, fruits, fish and poultry and healthy oils. I didn't even look at a book to make the list, I know it-but I don't always do it. So what if I did for a week? What if instead of our usually carefully planned menu ladden with potatoes, white rice and maple frosted mini wheats, we ate essentially?

To go along with my new goal to live sustainably, why don't I buy local fruits and veggie and fish and why not walk or bike to get it?!

I am going to work on the food shopping list now, shop next Monday and report back about how it's going. Care to try with me? Where will you shop? What will you drop?

For me, it means no Rita's, grrr and no snacks from the box, Fruits, veggies, nuts and whole grains the whole way. I think I will even bike to the butcher.

Think we will save $$? The normal food shopping/household items budget for our home is $150 per week. That feeds 4 people 3 meals a day for at least 5 days. We rarely eat out and we spend a lot on diapers. I am really anxious to see if it will work for our budget.
